PBA 2008-09 app list
Rain or Shaine Elastopainters – You have Gabe, you have Mercado. How could you go wrong? Plus former Archers TY Tang and Ryan Araña and they are a shoo-in as my favourite team. And then there is this report that Harbour Centre owner Mikee Romero wants to enter the PBA via the backdoor (minor stake in the Air 21/Burger King franchise), then there is no reason for me to wait for Harbour to elevate to the big league.
Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters - I have no choice. Despite trading Don Allado, if not for Macmac Cardona and Renren Ritualo, they would have been automatically bottom in my list or at least at the bottom. I am not that ruthless.
Sta. Lucia Realtors – The reason they are here despite the fact that Marlou Aquino and Dennis Espino are still active in the lineup is because of Joseph Yeo and Kelly Williams. And then there is Ryan Reyes as an upgrade of Ryan Cabagnot.
Coca Cola Tigers – Speaking of Cabagnot, here is where he plays along with unlikeables John Arigo and Ronjay Buenafe. But hey, Asi Taulava is here and so is Mark Telan. Nic Belasco is also aboard. And what, no sign of Ateneans wherever!
Air 21 Express – There was a time when Air 21 was known to be a cheapskate squad. Then they started winning and there were no more lousy trades. Except for the one involving Ranidel de Ocampo and Don Allado.
San Miguel Beermen – There was a time when they were first in my list. Not anymore. Especially when you still have Wesley Gonzales in tow. And Mick Pennisi. Eeew.
Barangay Ginebra Kings – Come to think of it, everything is downhill from number five. Sure, they have Sunday Salvacion and Willie Wilson in tow. But the spotlight is more on Ronald Tubid. The catch is Mark Caguioa has not played a single game yet this season. Eeek. I just remembered I spotted Allan Caidic, who is back as assistant coach, and team manager Hector Calma on the bench. That should count for something, shouldn’t it?
Red Bull Barakos – Suffering from a last minute demotion is Red Bull. They now own the sellout (as in they sell all of their players out to other teams) tag especially after disposing Cyrus Baguio for trash picks. That was the last straw for Yeng Guiao to finally say “I quit”.
Alaska Aces – There was also a time when Alaska was team Archers. Not anymore. They might have Kelvin dela Peña but LA Tenorio is the starting point guard.
Purefoods Giants – Want to make their team name sound worse? How about Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants. Imagine that for a moment. Rommel Adducul might have returned from cancer but nobody else is likeable in the roster. Not even the head coach. You have Big Gay James, Choke-rby Raymundo, and E-Vil in the same lineup. I beg you, please trade Jondan Salvador to a more decent squad!
